What is a coloured diamond?

A coloured diamond is a diamond with a visible body colour rather than being colourless. The colour comes from an irregularity in the crystal: boron produces blue, nitrogen produces yellow, and distortion of the lattice under pressure produces pink. These are graded on a separate scale from colourless diamonds.

Are lab grown pink and blue diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. They have the same carbon structure, the same hardness and the same optical behaviour as mined diamonds, and the colour is produced by the same causes. The difference is that the conditions are controlled rather than left to geology.

Why are pink and blue diamonds so expensive?

Because the conditions that create them are rare and cannot be predicted. Natural pink and blue stones of any meaningful size are among the most expensive gemstones sold by weight. Lab grown stones remove the scarcity, which is why a 14.2 carat pink centre is possible here at all.

What is the difference between a statement ring and an engagement ring?

Do coloured diamonds need different care?
